This year, our class will implement a classroom economy system! It’s an excellent tool for teaching financial responsibility, and we think the students will enjoy it. Here's a little bit about how it works:
Using classroom “currency,” (TEAM MC Bucks):
Students earn money weekly:
Citizenship - $25 per week ($5 per day) Every student automatically earns this amount
Job- $5 per week ($1 per day) Students earn this amount if they choose to have a job and if they complete their job
Students must pay tax weekly:
$5 per week ($1 per day) Tax is automatically deducted from all paychecks each week
**If you have a job, you should be getting paid a total of $25 per week.
**If you do NOT have a job, you should be getting paid a total of $20 per week.
Students may earn extra money (anywhere from $5 to $50) by:
Acts of Kindness
Excellent Behavior
Being Extra Prepared
Super On Task
Wow Behavior
Compliment from another teacher in the building
Any Many More Ways!
Students must pay money for:
Behaviors (off task, disrespectful, excessive talking...): $5 per offense
Homework (not turning in a homework assignment): $5 per offense
Job (not completing their job) $5 per day
The classroom economy helps students learn valuable life skills through experience. In addition, the system fits in well with of our curriculum. We’ll also have a little fun with it...
12 Week Rewards
We will have a reward at 12 weeks!
Students must be able to pay $150 in Team MC Bucks to enjoy this reward AND have no more than 5 missed assignments.
Over the next few weeks we will be determining along with the other 4th and 5th grade classrooms what these rewards look like.
Throughout the year, we hope that you find great opportunity to have a thoughtful discussion about financial responsibility with your child.
If you have any questions about the classroom economy, please feel free to contact us.
